How This Event Has Helped All

Strengthening Our Social Fabric

When we’ve come together as citizens and as neighbors, we’ve formed stronger social bonds, bonds that helped uplift our communities. We’ve designed the Massachusetts Wear Orange events to achieve several key outcomes:

  • Peace through Unity

  • Understanding through Collaboration

  • Empowerment through Education

By bringing diverse groups together for a day that celebrated both what makes us unique and what brings us together, we created a foundation of hope and of trust.  That foundation is what allows us to survive, to strive, and to thrive!

DrawIng Attention To Our Community

By engaging with government representatives and other community leaders in a public forum, we brought greater awareness to community needs and priorities, and opportunities for resource allocation. As the event has grown, we’ve created a self- sustaining cycle of growth, stability and investment together.

Maximizing Dollars

The impact both Moms Demand Action and partners such as Lena Park Community Development Corporation have had on the every day lives of families in the Greater Boston Area is tremendous.  Collectively we’ve provided life sustaining resources, services and programs.  Every dollar raised that was spent on those resources was another life saved, changed, and empowered.

We’ve created neighborhood-strengthening events while supplementing programming dollars and keeping them fully focused where they need to be - on people.

being Part of a National Movement

While focusing on our local community, this day has also been about being a part of the national Wear Orange movement. Orange has been the defining color of the gun violence prevention movement. New York gun violence prevention advocate Erica Ford spearheaded orange as the color of peace through her work with her organization, Life Camp, Inc. Whether it’s worn by students in Montana, activists in New York, or by those right here in Boston, the color orange honors the more than 90 lives cut short and the hundreds more wounded by gun violence everyday.

The movement gains momentum when gun sense activists come together to fight for a future free from gun violence. Wear Orange Weekend has been an opportunity for us to show the country just how powerful we are.
